Tom Clifford was bord in 1923 in Tipperary but then moved to limerick City when he was three years old. He went to school in C.B.S where he won four senior schools cup.

He played for Young Munsters for many years but at the age of fiftheen, he got a chance to play for the senior team agienst Constitution. Tom played fullback in the game witch they lost.

He later made his Munster Senior Cup deibeu in 1943 and he played wing-foward. The following season the was picked to play Leinster in Landsdown Road where he kicked a penelty goal in Munsters 7-3 win. Cliffords display was noticed by the Irish selecters. Saddly his international career was nearly over when he got a sever bout to his pleurisy and he was out for two years. when he came back, Tom Clifford played for Munster, Ireland and even the British and Irish Lions.
